- June 7, 2017 – Bambi Rattner Testifies as a Paid Fact Witness in my Civil Trial
Psychologist Bambi M. Rattner testified during the civil trial of Cegalis v. Knutsen. Although she was compensated for her participation, she was not a party to the lawsuit and had not been disclosed as an expert witness. The court therefore limited her testimony to that of a fact witness.
During her testimony, Rattner discussed abuse allegations, trauma, and reunification despite acknowledging that she was serving as a trauma therapist rather than a forensic evaluator. Under cross-examination, she testified that she had not investigated whether the allegations were true, had never interviewed the child’s mother before forming opinions affecting their relationship, knew that the Department for Children and Families had not substantiated the allegations, and was unfamiliar with national standards for interviewing children.
The transcript provides a firsthand record of Rattner’s testimony and the limitations placed on her role by the court. Readers can review the complete exchange and draw their own conclusions.
