- November 17, 2010 – Marilynn (Fogarty) Knutsen Takes Control of a Multimillion-Dollar Estate

On November 17, 2010, nearly two years after the death of Thomas F. Fogarty, Marilynn Fogarty filed an application with the Greenwich Probate Court seeking admission of his will and codicils to probate.

The application identified Marilynn Fogarty as the surviving spouse, a beneficiary under the will, and the proposed fiduciary responsible for administering the estate. It estimated the value of the estate’s personal property at approximately $1.02 million and its gross taxable estate at approximately $1.18 million, while also acknowledging that Thomas Fogarty held an interest in Connecticut real property.

On November 30, 2010, the Probate Court approved the will and codicils and appointed Marilynn Fogarty as executrix. The court gave her two months to file a complete inventory of the estate and twelve months to settle it.

That appointment placed Marilynn Fogarty in control of the estate’s assets, creditor claims, tax filings, accounting, and final distribution. The probate matter would remain open for years and would later become the subject of a court notice identifying required estate documents as overdue.
