On May 4, 2012, Raymond Knutsen went to Rutland Family Court seeking an emergency Relief From Abuse order.
His handwritten affidavit contained a single allegation:
The court denied his request for emergency relief.
That denial did not end the effort.
Instead, a second handwritten affidavit appeared in the same court file. This time, Raymond Knutsen replaced a single sentence with pages of graphic false allegations accusing me of repeatedly sexually abusing my own son through an astonishing series of grotesque acts.
Raymond and Marilynn Knutsen claimed that I held my son down, inserted a “tail” into his rectum, tied him up, covered his mouth with duct tape, photographed him, dressed him in costumes while he slept after feeding him “gummy worms,” painted his fingernails and toenails, forced him to suck thumbs, and committed numerous other fabricated acts.
These were not rumors. Raymond and Marilynn Knutsen placed these allegations into a sworn court filing.
“Karen Cegalis and her boyfriend hold my son down on the floor with his pants pulled down and forceably (sic) spread his buttocks open and insert a ‘tail’ into his rectum…
…putting him on a desk with duck (sic) tape over his mouth…
…He paints his toes and fingers with homemade nail polish…
…Wayne also wears red pants and purple lipstick…
…They gave him gummy worms that put him to sleep…
…he wakes up with various costumes…
…Sometimes they put tails in Leif’s mouth as well as rectum.
Karen also sleeps with Leif and sucks on his thumb and forces him to suck on hers.”
Those allegations triggered years of investigations, court proceedings, and litigation. More than a decade later, the public record tells a far different story than the one Raymond and Marilynn Knutsen attempted to place before the court.
