- July 14, 2017 – Dr. Ricky Greenwald Refuses to Apply the Court’s Legal Findings

During a July 14, 2017 family court hearing, psychologist Dr. Ricky Greenwald testified under oath regarding the trauma therapy provided to my son through the Trauma Institute. Greenwald testified that he had “closely supervised” the case, despite never interviewing me and not serving as my son’s treating therapist.

During cross-examination, the court addressed the central issue that had divided the litigation for years. Judge Helen Toor explained that the court was legally required to begin with the existing judicial findings regarding the abuse allegations and asked Dr. Greenwald to assume that factual framework when offering recommendations concerning future parent-child contact.

Rather than answering the question, Dr. Greenwald testified that his team had already “definitively ruled out” that possibility. When the judge clarified that she was asking him to work within the legal findings the court was obligated to apply, Greenwald declined, stating that he “couldn’t ethically answer that question” because he could not entertain the hypothetical.

The exchange became one of the most significant moments in the record. Rather than adapting his opinions to the legal framework established by the courts, Dr. Greenwald testified that he could not analyze the case under those assumptions at all.
